Dag Hammarskjöld

Dag Hammarskjöld, Markings
In the point of rest at the center or our being. we encounter a world where all things are at rest in the same way, Then a tree becomes a mystery, a cloud a revelation, each man a cosmos of whose riches we can only catch glimpses. The life of simplicity is simple, but it opens to us a book in which we never get beyond the first syllable.

Arlington West

I participated in this project during the previous presidential administration, when it was held every Sunday. For sometime it has been restricted to one Sunday a month. I've joined the duty roster, and will fit in whenever I can. Been AWOL for too long. The photo on the lower right is that of an old tennis buddy of mine.

  1. It is. Authentic. I remember how to do this. Good post skipper.

  2. I was having a whole lot of trouble with all this rah rah Fourth of July thing, but then I saw your post. It's perfect.

  3. In this case, a picture is worth way more than a thousand words. This is a shattering place. Now, if people will resolve to make it the last such place.

  4. All of us can disagree on Afghanistan and still respect each other's intellectual honesty. Some will say that we can't leave Afghanistan until we accomplish something. In my view we have accomplished our initial objective which was to bag & tag OBL. There is really no other national interest in staying on this moonscape for another day of these kind of tragedies. Many will point out that all of our sacrifices of blood and treasure will go for nothing if we 'cut & run'. I'm saying that staying is mission creep: Sunk costs should not affect the rational decision-maker's best choice.

  5. I was out of the country on the fourth for the first time in my life. Something didn't feel right. It was the first time we weren't on the bay that weekend and also the first time we didn't see some kind of fireworks. I know those aren't the most important things about the fourth, but they certainly do play a role in my normal celebration of our freedom. Regardless of how any American feels about Afghanistan, we should always look to the men and women who serve unconditionally, every day, defending our rights to do as we please, and give thanks.

    WV: docked!

  6. A good statement. There is nothing I have to add. We are in the same boat with only minimal degrees apart: one of us wants to point and the other prefers to foot.
