Dag Hammarskjöld, Markings
In the point of rest at the center or our being. we encounter a world where all things are at rest in the same way, Then a tree becomes a mystery, a cloud a revelation, each man a cosmos of whose riches we can only catch glimpses. The life of simplicity is simple, but it opens to us a book in which we never get beyond the first syllable.

I Am Blake Hawksworth

Last night the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a victory in extra innings, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 10th to go ahead of the Arizona D-Backs 5-1. In the bottom of the 10th the D-Backs had their backs on the ground with bases empty and two outs. Arizona was down to its last strike.

Arizona batter Cole Gillespie then hit a bouncing grounder down the first base line. Dodger 1st baseman James Loney pursued it down the line, gloved it, whirled, and threw to first base for the final out. As you can see by clicking on the image, pitcher Blake Hawksworth was not in the play but watching it. He had no confidence that Loney was going to make the play. His carelessness and laziness opened the door to the Dodgers' defeat which agonizingly came minutes later in the form of an Arizona grand slam homer.

Me? I watched the whole thing on teevee, stuffing myself in a feeding binge, which totally obliterated my progress in weight loss for the week.

I am not covering first base.
