Dag Hammarskjöld, Markings
In the point of rest at the center or our being. we encounter a world where all things are at rest in the same way, Then a tree becomes a mystery, a cloud a revelation, each man a cosmos of whose riches we can only catch glimpses. The life of simplicity is simple, but it opens to us a book in which we never get beyond the first syllable.

"Never Enough"

Today, I'm 74.

What's new? New pains. Right hip and back. I haven't been taking my calcium? Cancer is moving into my bones? I'm only hours or days away from taking my big fall?

Amazingly, I share my birthday with my youngest son and two guys I work with on the job. I also share June 14th with a mixed bag of notables: Pierre Salinger, Don Newcombe, Steffi Graf, Che Guevara, Donald Trump. They're maybe 80% admirable or instructive.

What have I learned in almost 75% of a century? Thoughts and feelings flood in, demanding to be heard and expressed. (Not here!)

In a conversation last night, I recalled an old boat I used to crew on in the previous century. Don't know where it is now. But its name was both admirable and instructive.

  2. Happy Birthday, RW! At first I thought you said John Newcombe, who stole your mustache style.
